Título:
Roles of water and temperature in the epidemiology of Xylella fastidiosa
Resumen:
Soil moisture is a key determinant of the diversity, distribution and abundance of vectors and plants that support the occurrence of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa. This bacterium exclusively inhabits the foregut of sucking insects that specialize in feeding on xylem sap and the water-conducting system (xylem) of plants. Freezing temperatures limit the geographical distribution of X. fastidiosa and higher temperatures regulate its rate of growth. Management methods for diseases caused by this pathogen must take into account these fundamental ecological determinants.
